Calibration Gas Standards for Food Flavorings and Additives
The health and environmental impacts of food additives and preservatives are becoming more prominent. To ensure that foodstuffs meet quality and regulatory guidelines, proper calibration of analyzers for these additives is required. Among the common additives are flavorings like Vanillin, Eugenol and d-Limonene, Terpenes like α-pinene and β-pinene, and preservatives like benzoic acid. While many standards for foodstuffs are provided in liquids for Liquid Chromatography analysis, KIN-TEK Analytical, Inc. has developed permeation tubes for creating gas standards that are easily quantifiable for calibration of gas chromatographs, GC/MS, or other gas detection devices.

Gas Standards for Chemical Warfare Agent (CWA) Simulants
Recent world events have reinforced the need for accurate detection and analysis of trace concentration Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs).
Calibrating analytical devices using real agents is dangerous and difficult so simulants such as Dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) and Diisopropylmethylphosphonate (DIMP) are used as G-agent simulants and Methyl salicylate (MS) and 2-Chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (CEES) are simulants for HD agents.
KIN-TEK Analytical, Inc. offers several CWA simulants for calibrating detectors or researching new methods of rapid detection. Trace Source disposable permeation tubes used within a FlexStream™ Permeation System provide an excellent method for creating high quality gas standards. Dilution of the output gas from the permeation tube provides step changes for creating a calibration curve of different concentrations. Secondary dilution capability with the addition of controlled %RH humidified gas in the right matrix provides the best combination to test for real life detection scenarios that would occur in humid environments.

Complex Gas Mixtures for Air Quality Analysis
The analysis of various gas mixtures such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air, breath analysis constituents, and indoor air pollutants requires calibration with accurate and reliable gas standards that mimic actual conditions. Humidity in various environments creates more challenges for accurate quantitative analysis and must be added to the calibration method.
KIN-TEK Analytical, Inc. provides products to create complex gas mixtures ranging from 2 or more different compounds in a single span gas stream. Each KIN-TEK permeation oven can hold up to 8 Trace Source™ disposable permeation tubes or 1 refillable permeation tube (depending on the application). Multiple oven permeation modules can be linked to increase the number of calibration gases desired.
KIN-TEK offers a Humidified Gas Module (HG Module) for creating %RH from ~20% to 90% RH (depending on the application) and can fulfill the need to calibrate in the same environment of real sampling.
