The Span Pac™ I Gas Standard Generator System dynamically creates trace gas standards for on-line calibration of process analyzers for over 550 chemicals, capable of generating NIST traceable gas standard concentrations from sub-ppt to over 1,000 ppm. The system has an output signal for switching the analyzer input from sample to calibration gas, or it can be integrated with existing sample systems.  Options such as adding a Z-purge or coated output tubing are available to meet special requirements.

How to Calibrate to True Conditions

Atmospheric detection devices such as gas monitors, gas detectors, or gas sensors require accurate calibration to prevent false readings or hazardous exposures. These devices are typically positioned where exposure to humidity can cause interference or degradation of detector response. To prevent inaccuracies or false readings, gas monitoring and detection devices should be calibrated to true operating conditions that include percent relative humidity (%RH) indicative of their environment. Gas cylinders provide a static gas blend and additional equipment, or multiple gas cylinders are needed to add various levels of %RH to the calibration gas for proper calibration. The entire process is further complicated when multiple gas standards or a range of concentrations are needed with and without %RH to truly test detector performance.

Cylinder Air Quality for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus

Ensuring the quality of air in a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) is important for the safety and well-being of the consumer in diving, firefighting, and laboratory applications. Divers, for example, will be completely reliant on the SCBA while under water, each diving tank has ~1 hour of use. If the mixture has contaminants, it can adversely affect the divers health or equipment. The supplier must ensure their breathing air cylinder is below contaminant thresholds for compounds such as CO, CO­₂, and Volatile Hydrocarbons by testing their equipment and process.

Accurate gas calibration for quality control in beverage production!

Millions of beverages are sold worldwide every day. Testing contaminates that can be found in beverage products is a must to ensure a safe product. The quality and purity of the drink falls on all those involved in the supply chain from the simple components to the factory that bottles the beverage. Any failures in quality control can lead to health concerns for consumers and major recalls.

There are a few points in the supply chain where contamination can take place. One major gas used in the beverage industry is Carbon dioxide, (CO₂). CO₂ gas is used to carbonate drinks, is produced during fermentation, used to blanket a beverage (such as wine) to preserve taste and color, and other uses.

Contaminants in beverage can be traced to:

• CO₂ gas source,
• Byproducts of fermentation
• Reaction between air and the beverage

Some trace contaminants, are Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) (among other sulfurs), VOCs, and ABETX.

Calibration for trace contaminates in CO₂ requires accurate gas standards that are reliable and repeatable.
